Point-of-Care-Testing (POCT) is the Term used for near-Patient Laboratory Diagnostics. This is because in this Procedure, Diagnostic Tests are not carried out in a Central Laboratory but, for Example, directly on the Ward, at the Pharmacy or in a Doctor’s O􀀁ce. POCT is particularly important to us at deus21 because it increases the Speed of Diagnostics and the Results are available very quickly.

How does Point-of-Care Testing work and what Values can be determined?

So-called Rapid Tests are carried out, some of which Patients can do themselves, such as Blood Glucose Measurement or Pregnancy Tests. In Addition, many other Examinations such as PCR Tests or Special Laboratory Values. These Parameters are also measured, which are well suited for POCT: Kidney Function Values, Blood Count, Detection of Certain Pathogens and many more.

In which Areas is the Use of POCT suitable?

Especially in Areas where Speed is of the Essence, such as Intensive Care Units, Anesthesia, Dialysis, Outpatient Clinics and many other Areas, as well as for PCR Tests in Rapid Test Centers. Especially with the so-called Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR -Polymer Chain Reaction) the POC-Rapid Tests make sense, because many People are waiting for the Result in a short Time. In this Procedure, the DNA is ampli􀀂ed and thereby associated with free Nucleotides, DNA Polymerases and Special Primers.

Advantages of Point-of-Care-Testing

  • The Results are available after a short Time, as there is no need to transport to a Laboratory.
  • Timed Procedures can be carried out in a self-determined Manner and are independent of any Bottlenecks in a specialized Laboratory.
  • The Turnaround Time (TAT) is about 30-50 Minutes. Then the Result is available.

There are many Reasons for the Implementation of POCT. Give us a call! We will be very happy to advise you.
